1836 Beef Rub
Salt, cracked black pepper and garlic for a dark Texas bark. Our #1 seller for beef.
What it tastes like
Coarse black pepper you can see, sea salt and garlic, with onion and paprika behind them. It's the Central Texas brisket profile, built to make bark. Our old tagline for it says it best: Bark Maker.
1836 is the year Texas won its independence, and about when Dan's family settled here. It's the rub we named for it.
What it's best on
Brisket, prime rib, ribeyes and strips, tri-tip, beef ribs and burgers. Customers use it on "brisket and tri-tips" and on hamburgers.
How to use it
- Brisket: a thin layer of Worcestershire sauce as the binder, SPG as the base, then 1836 for the cracked black pepper, then a light layer of Sugar Daddy. On a whole packer brisket Dan uses 4 tablespoons of 1836, 4 of SPG and 2 of Sugar Daddy. Recipe: Texas-style brisket.
- Burgers: Dan seasons 1 lb of ground chuck with 1 tablespoon of 1836. Recipe: the Texas burger that beat Whataburger.
- Steak: season all sides before it hits the grill. Dan uses it with Worcestershire as the binder on ribeyes and filets in his 30-minute surf and turf.

Questions people ask
Do I need SPG too?
No, 1836 works on its own. Dan layers SPG underneath on brisket for extra salt and garlic.
How much for a whole brisket?
Dan uses 4 tablespoons of 1836 with 4 of SPG and 2 of Sugar Daddy on a whole packer. Cover the edges too.
Will it work on a steak?
Yes, it's a classic salt, pepper and garlic steak seasoning. Campfire Steak Seasoning is the other one we make for steaks.
